Bar Soba have launched a new cocktail menu. The company, which serves creative drinks and South-East Asian Street dishes, has three locations in Glasgow – Mitchell Lane, Albion Street and Byres Road – alongside restaurants in Edinburgh and Leeds.
Fans of their Drumstick Caipiroska and Um Bongo cocktail can rejoice as there is now a whole Disco Drinks chapter of the menu, which is a contemporary tribute to the 80’s era of cocktail making – think alcoholic twists on childhood memories, fluorescent green and tuck shop sweets without the umbrellas and sparklers.
The Refresher is here to bring something new – vanilla and lemon vodkas churned through crushed ice with lemon juice and sugar syrup. Served with a Refresher chew on the side for you to see how it measures up.
Thanks to the popularity of their infamous Jangshi Zombie (a drink so strong, they’ll only serve a maximum of two to a guest), they’ve developed more Thai Tiki cocktails, like the Caramelised Rum Punch, where each drink is caramelised to order.
Demerara sugar is ignited with Grand Marnier before being added to a blend of golden rum and fresh fruit juices.
Their Tiger Lily Colada is crafted with a hint of Pandanessence, which gives it a bright green colour and a mild, nutty flavour.
The menu is full of Soba twists, including an impressive remix of the Manhattan. Their Smoked Walnut and Vanilla version features infused Woodford Reserve bourbon and is smoked to order using oak chips. They’ve also curated a collection of drinks inspired by South-East Asia, in-synch with their Pan-Asian Street Food offering. Their Asian Persuasion selection celebrates flavours such as lemongrass.
Lead mixologist Scott Stevens said: “We wanted to put the fun back into drinking cocktails and we hope our guests have as much fun exploring the new menu as our bartenders have had creating them”. The new menu is available at the Glasgow Bar Sobas from 1st August.
