A family of Scottish Italians, with a passion for pizza and taste for prosecco, brought back to life two classic Piaggio Ape vans and one of them will be making its maiden voyage to a Southside venue this Friday and Saturday night to accompany a guest chef who has created a special three course menu.
The Piaggio Ape is fully kitted out with four pumps, to bring you the best Italian sparkling wine and the craftiest of beers. This weekend you will find Glera sparkling from the Veneto region in Italy and Gradisca Craft beer that is brewed between the sea and the hills of Romagna and San Marino.
Guest chef, Steven Livie, a Cathcart local has experience in a variety of restaurants across the city including Pollok House and a local favourite in Eaglesham, The Eglington Arms, focusing on fresh food and using seasonal produce where possible. Some of the things you can expect to see on the menu this weekend are Spanish style croquettes with venison shoulder and pheasant, seabass fillet and monkfish cheeks and lemon curd meringue parfait.
The Cellar Southside, to be found right beside Cathcart Station, is a repurposed restaurant come venue that will host a variety of food and drink events launching this weekend with a guest chef and of course a pop up Piaggio placed smack bang in the middle of the venue.
Francesco Longo, one of the partners in Pop Right Up said: “I am really proud and excited to be in this partnership with my family. All we want to do is be able to bring a taste of Italy to pretty much anywhere that we can trailer our vans. The people of Glasgow are unique and love to be able to add their own touches to events and parties and our two little Ape vans are the perfect way to do just that.”
