Dockyard Social street food includes Drake inspired chicken wings and chilli pizza


On the 30th November, The Dockyard Social arrives on Haugh Road, just off the main Finnieston strip on Argyle Street. There will be 11 food vendors serving international comfort food, beer and cocktails. It will start as a four day pop-up debut but the plan is to become a permanent fixture. The names of the food traders at the first event have started to be released. .

For The Dockyard Social, Kyle Steel, one of the men behind it all, likens the project to Dinerama in London, a bustling cluster of stalls and bars in trendy Shoreditch, and says he “wants to offer a dynamic addition to the inspiring food scene here in Glasgow, we aim to help reduce unemployment and help those in need as well as having a platform for incredible food traders.”

Kyle has previously organised pop-up food events across the city under the Section 33 banner.

Organisers describe Dockyard Social as an industrial space that will house a wide variety of food concepts – “stalls with bao buns, corn tacos, wood fired pizza etc – and four bars, all changing on a rotational basis.”

One of the new food concepts will be A Wing and a Prayer – a Drake themed fried chicken bar. Devised by creative agency, Too Gallus, it will be serving “chicken wings that will give you More Life” and dishes like Controlla Caribbean chicken.

Too Gallus’ creative director Barrington Reeves told Glasgowist: “Myself and Kyle are not only passionate about food be we are also avid music lovers and huge hip hop heads, so this seemed like a natural marriage of the two”. Have a look at the menu below.

Also, leading the street food pack, you’ll find Glasgowist favourite Chompksy and their bao buns, alongside burgers and BBQ rubbed pulled pork from FatBoys. Pizza Hawker will also be launching with their own slices of wood-fired pizza. Save room for Jack Daniels cocktails from a speakeasy pop-up bar and dessert via The Crema Caravan – look for hazelnut praline creme brulee.

Tickets are already selling fast for the first event, which will open from Thursday 30th November to Sunday 3rd December. Tickets for entry to the event are priced at £5 per person, which includes an arrival drink from a choice of cocktails, beers and wine. All food dishes are priced at £5.
