Chez Mal Brasserie at Malmaison Glasgow were determined to start the party season last week with the launch event for their new restaurant concept. Head Chef John Burns was on hand to introduce some of the signature dishes on the menu, which feature modern interpretations of classic dishes with Scottish produce to the fore, alongside Asian and French inspired plates.
John Burns has 12 years’ service with Malmaison, starting as a Commis Chef in Glasgow, then working in all Scottish Malmaisons, and every position of the Kitchen throughout his career. He told Glasgowist: “It’s great to be getting my teeth into another new project with Chez Mal Glasgow. Dishes on the menu will vary throughout the year on the A La Carte, alongside a seasonal Prix Fixe featuring modern French, Asian and Mal Classics such as the Mal Burger, Fishcakes, four styles of steaks from our Grille, and the famous Chateaubriand for two.”
Graham Chalmers, general manager at Chez Mal and Malmaison Glasgow, said: “We’re proud to have the Chez Mal Brasserie here at Malmaison Glasgow. We’ve returned to our roots with everything that comes with Chez Mal: a lively atmosphere, delicious food and superb service.”
Guests at the event enjoyed taster dishes, Champagne, Cosmopolitan cocktails and a carvery selection of meats while enjoying music from a DJ and musicians.
The Chez Mal Brasserie brand is being introduced to Malmaison hotels across the UK. Scott Harper, chief operating officer, Malmaison, said: “Brimming with creativity, culture, a buzzing nightlife and an ever-evolving food and drink scene, Glasgow is a real destination city and an obvious location for Chez Mal.
“We’re really excited to introduce the brand to the city; I think it is a great fit.”
The newly reworked restaurant space connects with the impressive cocktail bar next door which will be a popular location for after work drinks and festive nights out in the months ahead.
Something for the Weekend: On Saturday 4th November, the Royal Tokaji Wine Company, founded in Hungary, will host a lunch event in Chez Mal. Their wines have won over 100 international awards.
