Halloumi look to Athens for their inspiration. Greek flavours shine through from the menu, crafted with a modern Mediterranean spirit. Visit with friends who like to share their food. This is leisurely, small plate dining, with plenty of opportunities to interrupt your procession of dishes for cocktails or wine.
They recommend three dishes each, which gives the opportunity to mix and match between seafood, salads, grilled meats and Greek dips with toasted pitta breads. Divide and conquer as you go.
We visited this week to sit by the window and work our way through what turned out to be a spring feast.
Gyros: difficult to pronounce, easy to eat. Here, they are a fresh, light, toasted flat bread stuffed with grilled pork, chicken or halloumi. They also find space for tzatziki, some chips, and salad. It was unwrapped, divided and hoovered up.
Halloumi fries are a conspicuous and popular signature dish. Remember that the grilled halloumi and pomegranate salad is another colourful and satisfying combination. Highly recommended.
Our favourite dish was swordfish and king prawn skewers, which we interspersed with slices of grilled octopus, which is served with smoked paprika and houmous. Simple preparations, with the grill bringing out the best from the ingredients. You can find the full menu here.
Relaxing and fun, Halloumi feels like going on your holidays on Hope Street, if only for an hour or so.
