Expect the biggest celebrations yet as Visit West End prepares to light up Vinicombe Street at their second big Christmas tree light switch on and festive showcase between 12 and 7pm this Sunday, 26 November. Bringing sparkle to their Christmas market from 12 noon are some unusual traders, whether you’re hunting for a gift or want to soak up the festive atmosphere.
Flying in by owl, with the most magical presents and wares is Clause 73 Glasgow – the ultimate emporium for Harry Potter fans. Ahead of opening a pop-up shop in a secret location in the West End, this wizard-themed store will be offering up gifts and mythical presents for Potter fans in Glasgow.
Pink Poodle will be on hand to dazzle with their beautiful range of clothing, jewellery and gifts, alongside a pop-up stall from Nancy Smilie, showcasing jewellery, homeware and unusual presents, with prosecco and mince pies on offer in their main store.
If you’re looking for an food gift or product, you’ll want to visit Demijohn and sample their range of oils, spirits and liqueurs. Meanwhile, Bonnie Wee Buttons and Majic will have stalls full of crafts, cards and gorgeous scented candles. There’s also the chance to support the local Beatson cancer charity and pick up some cards or baubles for your own Christmas tree.
Entertainment begins at 2:30pm on the main stage, with a mixture of local bands – Mandulu & Hepzibah, Awkward Family Portraits – and choirs to help you get you into the festive spirit. The Rock Choir will lead the countdown to the lights switch with the Beatson Cancer Charity mascot Bella who will light up the twenty-foot Christmas tree.
The sound of sleigh bells will be ringing in Ashton Lane, as reindeers take to the cobbled lanes as a home for the day between 12 and 4pm. Under the twinkly canopy, delicious festive food and pop up bars will be serving a selection of winter warmers plus a Santa’s Grotto will be on hand for the kids.
Popping up in the surrounding lanes, you’ll discover performances from musicians and choirs while you meander around the shops. Make sure you check in store for flash promotions from West End traders, shops and restaurants as we celebrate the beginning of the festivities. You’ll also find a balloon modeller, face painter and even Santa’s red Post Box waiting for your little ones’ Christmas list to be posted in both Creswell and Ruthven Lanes.
Crafted by the Byres Road and Lanes Business Improvement District, the organisation behind Visit West End, their Christmas on Byres Road event is bringing together local businesses, festive fun, incredible gifts and entertainment to shine the fairy lights on what you can find locally this Christmas.
The Beatson festive baubles and cards will available to buy from the Christmas market in Vinicombe Street. Money raised will go towards ensuring the Beatson Cancer Charity continues to provide the best services for their patients and families in Glasgow.
David Howat, Chair of the Byres Road & Lanes BID Company Ltd, said: “Whether you’re looking to pick up a present, soak up the festive atmosphere or indulge some winter warming food and drink, our Visit West End elves have been busy pulling together a jam-packed schedule for all the family to enjoy this Sunday.
“Get wrapped up, and come out and support your local businesses as we get set to light up the West End!’
