Paddy Quinn has run a chippy on Kent Road for 14 years. He’s fried many foods. So when Tennent’s Lager encouraged The Kent Fish & Chip Shop to add a beer-battered, deep fried square sausage to the menu, he was ready. But even Paddy has been taken aback by the reaction.
The innovative culinary fusion creation is in demand. They were averaging about 20 rolls and battered square sausage an hour today, selling one every three minutes. Meanwhile, the video that Tennent’s posted yesterday to introduce the Glasgow dish has become a viral food sensation on Facebook, clocking up close to 600,000 views, 6000 comments and 5000 views. In a day.
Now, this could be a food trend that spreads across Glasgow’s other chippies. The beer-battered square sausage has been hailed a “game changer” on Twitter.
The effect of the new roll and battered sausage on hangovers is yet to be established but initial anecdotal evidence suggests it could be a winner.
Rhona Fyfe, Brand Manager at Tennent’s told Glasgowist: “We’re always excited by new delicacies that come from the country’s rich larder. A roll’n’square has got to be one of the best Scottish snacks going, so we decided to serve punters with something new to consider this lunchtime – the Tennent’s infused deep-fried square sausage. See you in the queue at lunchtime – Bon Appeti-T”
Have a look at the video that started it all on Facebook, or watch the clip on YouTube below. Join the queue at Paddy’s chippy tomorrow.
