The Van T’s and Lewis Capaldi among winners at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards

Championing bands across a variety of genres since 2009, the Scottish Alternative Music Awards focus attention on emerging talent. Presented since 2009, the event has had a positive influence on the careers of local musicians. Nominees this year stretched to 28 shortlisted acts ranging from grime to electro to rock, including indie singer Siobhan Wilson, Glasgow DJ team Illyus & Barrientos, newcomers Jutland Songs and hip hop artist Kid Robotik.

This year’s ceremony took place last night at The Garage on Sauchiehall street with performances from disco-punk band White and psych-rock group Holy Mountain. The event was presented by Jim Gellatly.

The Van T’s, who performed at TRNSMT and are regulars on the Glasgow music circuit, won best live act at the awards. Meanwhile, the highly-tipped Lewis Capaldi, who recently played at St Luke’s, won best acoustic act.
