19th February 2017 by Jack Dempsey

Aye Write!, Glasgow’s Book Festival, and Wee Write! the festival events for children and young people return for 2017 with an impressive line-up of authors, poets, writers and books. This year, Aye Write! will be staged across three venues while Wee Write! has two family days either side of a packed week of events designed for schools.

Aye Write! starts on March 9 and runs until March 19. Wee Write! Family Days are on Feb 25 and March 4. This year Aye Write! will return to its base at the Mitchell Library with more events scheduled for the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and, for the first time, at the Centre for Contemporary Arts.

Personalities appearing this year include Ian Rankin, who is marking 30 years of his John Rebus character, former Doctor Who and All Creatures Great and Small star Peter Davison, John Byrne, Elaine C. Smith, Sanjeev Kohli and Sally Magnusson.

Other events include politicians Vince Cable, Alan Johnson, Catherine Mayer, Chris Mullen and Roy Hattersley discussing their latest books while elsewhere on the programme David Hayman performs plays by Chris Dolan.

There’s a special gathering which will see Scotland’s Makar Jackie Kay joined by former Makar Liz Lochead and Glasgow’s Makar Jim Carruth. Also appearing are Jenni Murray, The Reverend Richard Coles, Matthew Parris, Joanna Trollope, Miranda Sawyer, MC Beaton, Val McDermid, AL Kennedy, Denise Mina and the BBC’s Frank Gardner.

There is a music strand to the festival called Aye Tunes! which will feature Roddy Woomble of Idlewild, Mike Heron of The Incredible Sting Band, Brix Smith Start of The Fall and Tim Burgess of The Charlatans.
