Back to the eighties for Botanic Gardens open air cinema

The Botanic Gardens is set to be the backdrop for four nights of classic outdoor cinema screenings of1980s sci-fi fan favourites.

Following a successful pilot outdoor cinema two years ago, four films by Glasgow’s most-famous director, Bill Forsyth, last summer. Now Visit West will host open air cinema screenings in the Botanic Gardens on 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th August.

The cinema schedule is:


Thursday 16 August – Blade Runner


Friday 17 August – Close Encounters of the Third Kind


Saturday 18 August – Back the Future


Sunday 19 August – Death Watch (1980)
Entrance will be permitted from 8.30pm from the Queen Margaret Drive entrance. The films start at 9pm. Make sure to bring your own seating, such as blankets or sun chairs.

The garden kiosk will stay open till late, selling hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks. You may also bring your own picnic, but you will not be permitted to bring alcohol to the screening.
