Bibimbap on West Nile Street have announced they are to open a second restaurant site in the West End. The restaurant opened in March this year, finding success with a mix of Korean comfort food and cocktails.
The word Bibimbap literally means “mixed rice”. Bibimbap is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with namul (sautéed and seasoned vegetables) and gochujang (chili pepper paste), soy sauce, or doenjang (a fermented soybean paste).
A fried egg and sliced meat (usually beef) are common additions. The hot dish is stirred together thoroughly just before eating. It was listed at number 40 on the World’s 50 most delicious foods readers’ poll compiled by CNN Travel.
Other items on the menu include kimchi, deopbap, soup, noodles and popular dishes like fried chicken. Expect the new restaurant to follow a similar format and to also have a selection of sakes at the bar.
The new 40 cover West End restaurant is due to open in January 2019. The exact location will be announced soon.
Bibimbap Manager Joe Cassidy said: “We are very excited to be expanding our business in Glasgow. The team have enjoyed a brilliant few months since we opened our doors on West Nile Street earlier the year and we have been overwhelmed with the feedback from our customers on our food, our drinks and culture of our restaurant brand. Glasgow’s West End is thriving with incredible independent restaurant operators and we look forward to joining the neighbourhood.”
