Congratulations to the Bon Accord on North Street as they are named Whisky Pub of the Year 2019 by the Good Pub Guide. They retain the title after also earning the accolade in the last guide, which picks out the best bars across the UK.
The Good Pub descibe the Bon Accord thus: “Knowledgeable staff serve the marvellous drinks in this convivial tavern and can help you decide what you want – which is just as well since the choice is huge. As well as 400 malt whiskies, there are daily changing real ales served from a swan-necked handpump and sourced from breweries all around Britain, including Caledonian Deuchars IPA and nine daily changing guests, continental bottled beers, a farm cider and, in a remarkable display behind the counter, 50 gins and lots of vodkas and rums.
“The several linked traditional bars are warmly understated with cream or terracotta walls, a mix of chairs and tables, a leather sofa and plenty of bar stools on polished bare boards or carpeting; TV, background music and board games. There are circular picnic-sets on a small terrace, and modern tables and chairs set out in front.”
The guide also highlights the Bon Accord’s “exceptionally good value food” whish includes bar snacks like giant yorkshire pudding filled with sausages and onion gravy, chilli con carne, an all-day breakfast, cajun chicken or burger with french fries, gammon and egg, and puddings such as clootie dumpling or apple pie with custard.
