Boogaloo Radio is the world’s first radio station broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week from a pub, and is the brainchild of landlord Gerry O’Boyle and writer and DJ Jennifer Crothers.
This is where you will find Glaswegian music manager Alan McGee on a Monday evening, hosting a radio show from a shed in the beer garden. Most weeks anyway – the Creation boss has invited Libertines’ Carl Barât as a guest on his own radio show; Riots, Raves & Running a Label.
The Libertines’ connection to The Boogaloo pub is well known throughout the music history books. They’ve worked behind the bar, had their first gigs here, and reunited all under this one roof. Cårl will be taking live call-ins from fans, plus special guests to help him play the tunes.
Fans may already know that record boss, Alan McGee used to manage The Libertines back in the day, and has a story or two to tell about their time together.
Alongside new recruit Carl Barât, the radio roster is packed full of the music industry’s icons, such as Andy Ross (Food Records), Brix Smith (The Fall), David Soul (Starsky & Hutch), Andy Bell (Ride), The Magic Numbers, The Klaxons, Bernard Butler (Suede), John Leckie… guests have included RUN DMC, Johnny Marr, Bananrama, Placebo, La Roux… find all previous shows here.
The radio station was built inside the pub’s former bin shed and you can visit during serving hours, as it is situated in the beer garden.
