It’s Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s 150th birthday on Thursday 7th June and Willow Tea Rooms at 97 Buchanan Street, with their Mackintosh-inspired interiors, are planning a day of celebrations.
The “It’s all Cakes & Cheers to Celebrate 150 years” event will welcome Willow’s local customers and international visitors who have the chance to enjoy afternoon tea for two for £15. This will be available all day long, for one day only.
The Willow’s in-house bakery are creating a tower of meringues – a favourite of Mackintosh and something that was on offer at his wedding in 1900 to Margaret Macdonald. The bakery have also created Mackintosh-inspired empire biscuits.
Owner, Anne Mulhern, said: “Many moons ago, I fell in love with all things Mackintosh and he has been a huge influence on my business so we decided we wanted to organise a major celebration for this landmark birthday! We have lots of treats in store for our wonderful customers and we look forward to welcoming them on Thursday for this very special event.”
