Dreamboats & Petticoats: Bringing on Back the Good Times is the third installment of the original feel-good jukebox musical Dreamboats and Petticoats. It continues the story of sweethearts Bobby (Jacob Fowler) and Laura (Elizabeth Carter) and is set in the mid-sixties in Bognor-Regis and Essex. All of the cast have the chance to showcase their own musicality and their energy and enthusiasm engages the audience as they charge through over 30 of the most popular tunes from the 50’s and 60’s.
Mark Wynter is ideally cast as the controlling talent manager Larry, bringing personal experience from his own career in the pop industry back in the 60’s. He gives a powerful performance of his own song “It’s Almost Tomorrow “ which has an added sense of poignancy.
The main reason for seeing the show is the music with dialogue serving to stitch together songs that are instantly recognisable. Strong nostalgic musical performances from the cast and Sean Cavanagh’s colourful set with choreography by Carole Todd really captures the feel of the era.
