The team at The Butterfly and the Pig South have announced new series of historical dinners, called Eat the Decades. The events will takes a quirky look at the history of Glasgow through the food that was popular for different generations. Diving into cookbooks from the past, they’ll bring back to life forgotten recipes and forge a connection with what Glaswegians eat today.
From jeely pieces tossed from tenement windows to grand banquets featuring herbs and spices from the colonies, Eat The Decades will visit dishes that help tell the story of Glasgow. Some will feature nostalgic dishes from school dinners and others inspired by war time ration books.
The first dinner is on Sunday 13th May with Eat the Decades – Mary Queen Of Scots and The Battle Of Langside. The event marks the 450th anniversary of the Battle Of Langside by looking at the what Mary herself would have eaten at on the day and how her time spent in France brought French cuisine to Scotland which still influences what and how we eat today.
The dinner will be accompanied by some information on Mary Queen Of Scots and the battle of Langside which was fought only yards away from The Butterfly and the Pig South.
