Emo power-pop rockers Hot Milk released their debut single earlier this year and have made a big impact, supported the likes of You Me At Six and Enter Shikari and completing a nationwide tour with Deaf Havana. They are part of a strong support roster for the Foo Fighters at their Summer Sessions gig in Bellahouston Park on 17th August.
They will open the show ahead of The Van T’s, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Slaves.
We have Five Quick Questions
1 How did Hot Milk get together?
Me and Jim were working in the local music scene in Manchester. Putting shows on, letting bands stay over and just generally being a part of the scene up here.
One night we decided to grab a bottle of wine and an acoustic guitar and in 25 minutes we managed to write what ended up as our second single.
We just fit together so well and found that we can almost read each other’s minds when it comes to writing together.
Since then we’re around 25 songs deep and we’re not stopping!
2 Tell us about your debut EP?
Our debut EP is called “Are You Feeling Alive?” And generally speaking it’s about not feeling very content or present in where you’re at in life.
We massively felt as though we had made a wrong turn somewhere and creatively we’re very frustrated as we weren’t getting the emotional release we needed through our life.
Hot milk and this EP was born out of a need to reclaim ourselves to survive and drag us out of an unhappiness that had become the norm.
3 You’ve been busy out on tour. Is this still the best way for new bands to win new fans?
I think it’s an easy way to win fans if you’re a good live band but obviously we live in a world where you’ve gotta have all areas covered especially online.
Ultimately touring gives you the ability to get in front of new people and generate content to show everyone what you’re up to so it’s a multi faceted way of letting people know Hot Milk are here to stir the pot!!
4 What songs in your set get the best reaction?
ALL THE EP!! But I think Awful Ever After or Wide Awake just coz they’re the ones you can have a proper mosh party to.
5 How do you feel about supporting The Foo Fighters?
Shitting it and ELATED in equal measure.
But for real what a bloody honour to share a stage with Dave and the lads, if nothing else it’ll be a great memory to have as a part of our 20s!
