Techno Fan by The Wombats – a track from their album The Modern Glitch. You’ll be able to move like Jagger to a variety of the Liverpool three-piece’s best tunes when the band line up for TRNSMT at Glasgow Green this summer.

The Wombats were formed in 2003 and continue to tour and release music – they’ve sold over a million albums. Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Tord Øverland Knudsen (bass, vocals) and Dan Haggis (drums, vocals) put out their latest release, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, last year.
The band will be playing on Sunday 24th July and will share the main stage with the likes of George Ezra, Snow Patrol, Jess Glynne, The Kooks, Tom Grennan, and The Amazons.

We asked them Five Quick Questions
1. What was the response like to last year’s album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life and how did it translate to live performance?
The response was great. As soon as we started playing the new songs live fans were singing along to every word, even to the more obscure ones. It’s always such a relief for a band to finally play songs from a new album in a room full of people.
Up until that moment they’ve only existed in a practice room or in a recording studio and you’ve agonised over every little detail of the mixes so to finally just have a beer and smash the songs out is such a good feeling!
2. With a back catalogue to mine, what kind of set are you bringing to TRNSMT this summer?
We haven’t had a practice yet or even discussed the set as we’ve been writing and recording new songs for our fifth album and doing various other side projects now that we’re off tour but I would imagine it’ll be a set filled with our best known songs.
We just want people at festivals to lose their shit and dance and sing and forget the strange real world for a couple of days, if we can be a part of achieving that then job’s a good’un!
3. What’s your relationship been like with Glasgow, have you memories of previous visits to the city?
We love Glasgow, it’s not a million miles away from our hometown of Liverpool in it’s vibe so we’ve always felt at home there.
Remember playing King Tuts back in 2005 and driving straight back after the gig through a pea souper, going like 40 mph down the M6 at 3am.
We’ve had some legendary nights out in Glasgow over the years the details of which are hazy…
4. What have you learned about your own music from four studio albums?
Listening back through them I can hear the specific time in our lives reflected back through the music.
The first album is obviously the ‘youngest’ sounding one, so energetic and hyper and gradually things get a bit more chilled and heavier as time goes on.
5. What’s next for The Wombats?
We’re currently working on our fifth album and have written a bunch of songs so far, we’re going to keep writing for the rest of the year and hopefully start recording at some point next year.
In the meantime we’re also working on putting out some side projects as well as releasing an album of Wombats ‘rarities’ which will consist of a load of unreleased demos and B-sides for fans to have a listen to and get more of an idea of the musical journey we’ve been on over the last 16 years.
