Five Stylish Ways to Match Shirts for Going Out

9th March 2020 by Hannah Berry

Shirts are an essential component of every man’s wardrobe. Some shirts are well suited for certain occasions than others; therefore, men should invest in different types of shirts. All men should at least own a couple of dress shirts, T-shirts, overshirts, classic short-sleeved shirts, flannel, and office shirts.

They come in different colours and styles. Also, various colours combine better with others. Therefore, men should pay attention to the colour combination when dressing up for any event.

This article explores various ways in which men can match their shirts with other clothes.

Matching a Classic Shirt with a T-Shirt

This classic combination works for various occasions if done correctly. This look is stylish but simple and serves as great party shirts for men who are looking to dress down or up for the event.

The best thing about this style is it gives you more options just by owning a few shirts and T- shirts; all you have to do is to know mix and match them, and you are good to go.

When it comes to T-shirts, you will not go wrong with checked, blue and corduroy; white and black ones dominate Tshirts.

Black velvet with a black T-shirt when attending a party in winter makes you stylish but also keeps you warm. A checked shirt is a classic must-have shirt for all men; you can out on a graphic T-shirt but a flannel shirt.

Matching Shirts and Ties

The colour of your tie forms the basis for the ideal tie for your outfit; it is, therefore, vital that you get the combinations right. A plain shirt is effortless to match than checked, striped, or patterned shirts.

Plain shirts do not go out of style; therefore, you do have to worry about looking trendy when wearing a plain shirt. A white shirt gives you room to explore; you can choose to go with a simple black tie or play with bright colours like red, yellow, or blue or even a patterned tie.

Blue comes in various shades; it is up to you to choose the shade that works best. You can go for a patterned tie, one with red or purple stripes or a plain tie of a different shade of blue. You can choose black, grey to go with a black shirt. If you need a bit of colour, then pick a dark purple tie.

Like black shirts, Grey ones are also best with a neutral tone; different shades of grey and even a bright neon tie are ideal.

Matching Shirts and Blazers

There are so many combinations to choose from in this look; blazers are naturally casual, so you have plenty of options in shirts. You do not have to break the bank when going for this look; purchase a few blazers and many shirts to interchange.

You can either pick a plan or patterned blazer. When pairing a blazer with a shirt, it is best to contrast. For example, navy, grey, or black blazers go well with white or light blue shirts; black blazers combine with any colour expect navy blue ad brown.

Patterned shirts also go well with grey, black, or blue blazers. Patterned blazers are tricky to wear, but if you get it right, the look is very stylish and elegant. Pinstripes are less challenging to match as it is similar to pairing a plain blazer.

If you are new to patterned blazers, it is safe to combine it with a uni shirt.

Matching Your Suit with Shirt

Since you will not invest in a new suit all the time, invest in several shirts that will combine well with the outfits you own. Pale blue and white shirts combine with many colours; invest in quality shirts.

It is easier to match your suit if you use fewer patterns; a patterned shirt goes well with a plain suit and tie. Lilac and purple shirts also combine well with navy or grey suits; a periwinkle and soft grey suits are better when combined with charcoal or black shirts. When experimenting with colours, playing with tonal variations yields excellent results.

An indigo suit combines wellwith a cornflower blue shirt that has microprint.

Combining Shirts with Jeans

This is a style you can mix in various options. Shirt choices for black jeans are limitless; they blend perfectly with white, blue, pink, black, and khaki shirts. Blue jeans are best worn with light blues shirts while grey jeans go well with camo or white shirts. White jeans are not the go-to style for most men; not everyone can pull it off. However, if matched correctly, it can be quite elegant and impressive. They are best complemented with white or light pastel shirts.

Whether you are dressing up for a casual event or a formal one, paying attention to the type of shirt you put on and also how your pair is essential.
