Fopp on Byres Road has been saved. The store will reopen tomorrow, Saturday, after a rollercoaster week that saw it close under a deal to rescue HMV.
A Tweet this evening from the store read: “We’re extremely delighted to reveal that our @FoppByresRpad store will reopen tomorrow, pop in and say hi.”
The Fopp on Byres Road was one of 27 HMV outlets that were on a list to close issued on Tuesday.
In a full statement, HMV said: “Following successful negotiations, we can confirm that the iconic Fopp, Byers Road store will re-open for business tomorrow (9th February).
“This is the best outcome for everyone and we are delighted to share the good news with all those who have been so supportive over the past weeks.
“There has been a huge amount of goodwill and a tremendous groundswell of support for this store in particular, with many customers and media campaigns calling for it to be re-opened.
“We would like to thank all of the bands and musicians, and especially our amazing customers, who’s support cannot be underestimated.”
Fopp started as a one-man stall in Glasgow in 1981 before expanding to an independent chain of music stores around the country.
