One of the defining movies of 1980s pop culture, The Lost Boys celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2017. To mark the occasion, Glasgow Film Festival teamed up with Empire magazine for a screening of Joel Schumacher’s horror-comedy cult classic.
Having previously hosted a “secret location” screening of Con Air in an airplane hangar, the special event say the audience arrive at the GFT before being buses to an unknown location of particular relevance to the film. Vampire fangs were also provided, with many of those who secured tickets going to elaborate lengths to dress up and get into the theme of the evening.
The atmospheric location turned out to be M&D’s Theme Park which stood in for the Santa Cruz amusement park that features prominently in the film, which brought together Brat Pack stars Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman.
Immersive cinema or location specific screenings have been a huge trend in recent years and this was a successful way to add an extra layer to the anniversary screening.
Allison Gardner, co-director of Glasgow Film Festival said, “we’re continuing to create unique cinemas events around some of our audiences best-loved films in terms of events venues, content and reach.”
Still to come, later in the festival, will be anniversary screenings of The Princess Bride and Secretary.
