How to spend a Glasgow quiet night in

18th January 2019 by Jack Dempsey

While there’s no shortage of amazing bars, clubs and restaurants in Glasgow to keep you occupied for a night out, sometimes all you want to do is chill at home. With the worst of winter weather fast approaching, the allure of a cosy night in with your pals is bound to become even more tempting.

Fortunately, a city as fun as Glasgow is perfectly equipped to help you have the best night in you could ever wish for, with the miracles of technology allowing you to bring the best the city has to offer directly to your living room. Here’s how to spend a night in, in Glasgow.

Dine out at home

Glasgow has more award-winning restaurants than anywhere else in Scotland, with cuisines from every corner of the globe just waiting to be sampled. You don’t have to book a table to enjoy the culinary highlights of the city, thanks to food delivery apps. Almost all the best casual restaurants are affiliated in one way or another. Log onto Deliveroo and see what delicious treats are on offer.

If you’re in need of some inspiration, we’ve got you covered. For some of the best and most creative Korean fare around, make sure to order in some of the seriously addictive bulgogi fries from Kimchi Cult. Tantrum doughnuts can be delivered to your door. In the city centre, Bath St Burger, Tuk Tuk Street Food and Bar Soba are popular.

After you order in some booze with Drinkly, it’s time to get the ball rolling with a few games. You could always play through a virtual version of Glasgow’s streets by downloading Nancy Drew: The Silent Spy, a 2013 PC release which is probably one of the only video games set mostly in Glasgow.

Alternatively, you could kick things up a notch with some online casino gaming – we Glaswegians don’t tend to do things in half measures, not even quiet nights at home. If you’re the kind of person who likes a lot of variety, head to one of the big online casino platforms that offer dozens of exciting slots. Online slot playing is on the up in Scotland, with popular platforms such as Paddy Power offering increasingly well-developed and immersive slot machine games to see people through those long winter nights. When it comes to nights in, gaming is always the way to go.

Soak up Glaswegian culture

If you’re looking for some films and TV shows to help you get your Glasgow fix from home, you’ll be spoiled for choice. One of the best releases of recent times is the Jonathan Glazer sci-fi thriller Under the Skin, which stars Hollywood A-lister Scarlett Johansson as an alien who has landed in Glasgow and must explore the city in order to learn what it truly means to be human. It’s definitely one of the spookier films out there, but offers some truly stunning shots of all of the major sites in the city. It’s also available on Netflix, which is all the more reason to give it a watch. Glasgow locations also featured in recent Netflix release Outlaw King. See how many you can spot.

Glasgow has more than enough adventures to keep you occupied for a lifetime and thanks to modern technology, you can enjoy the best the city has to offer from the comfort of the couch.
