Trainspotting was released in cinemas 25 years ago this week. A defining movie of the 1990s, set in Edinburgh but almost entirely filmed in Glasgow, like Danny Boyle’s previous film, Shallow Grave.

The memorable run along Princes Street set the local context, but much of the rest of the movie was put together here.

30 of the film’s 50 locations were filmed in Dennistoun.
The building has since been redeveloped as CityPark.
The school attended by Diane was Jordanhill in the West End.
A scene set in a London hotel room was filmed in the since-demolished George Hotel on Buchanan Street.
The nightclub where Renton met Diane was Volcano, close to Kelvinhall Station and also no longer standing.
The railway station where Tommy tries to whip up some enthusiasm for the Scottish countryside is on Rannoch Moor, at the northern tip of Loch Ossian.
The station is Corrour, on the West Highland Line between Glasgow and Mallaig.
The video shop was at 312 Dumbarton Road.
The street that Swanney lived on was in Govan.
The football scene at the start of the movie was filmed at Firhill Sport complex on Hopehill Road.
Trainspotting, directed by Danny Boyle, starred Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle, and Kelly Macdonald in her debut.
It was based on the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh.
Scenes from the sequel, T2 Trainspoting were also filmed in Glasgow.
