Perhaps the phrase pizza crunch comes to mind, Glasgow’s own idiosyncratic contribution to Italian fusion cuisine. Ultimately, chain restaurants and chippies have dominated the Glasgow pizza market. A food that’s exalted in other cities has been a byword for disappointing, generic, doughy constructions.
The food landscape has changed quickly this year, with the simple and pure pairing of a properly fired pizza base and real, fresh toppings transformed in some Glasgow restaurants into a true thing of beauty.
We are seeing a food trend develop that could rival the Great Glasgow Gourmet Burger Boom.
The movement has led to the Glasgow Big Fat Pizza Festival which will take place on 1st October from 12–8pm at Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians Rugby Football Club on Braidholm Road in Giffnock.
Get ready to grab a slice as some of the city’s new purveyors of pizza fire up their ovens and dish out their favourite taste combinations.

Meanwhile, Nik Biok from Bar Soba is set to cook up a storm with Pizza Punks.
The pizza oven was just installed and the restaurant at 90 St Vincent Street will open on 16th September.
