Irish star Jessie Buckley played two sell out gigs in Saint Luke’s this week, with a full band show featuring music from the smash hit film Wild Rose which was set and filmed in Glasgow.
Buckley starred as Glaswegian born wild child Rose- Lynn who dreamed of being a famous country and western singer.

The soundtrack was almost as popular as the film itself with country hits from the likes of Patsy Cline, Lynn Anderson as well as original tracks co written by Buckley and Nicole Taylor (writer of the movie).
Buckley continued to write and perform tracks after filming ended and has now transitioned into a budding country and western star with credible tracks and impressive vocals.
Her stage presence and vocal talent created an electric atmosphere in the venue from the first strum of the guitar. Her Irish lilt, banter with the audience and giggles as she waved to her Irish family immediately endeared her to the crowds.
One of her original songs That’s The View From Here (Famous Folk Are Weird) which she co-wrote thinking of her alter ego Rose-Lynn proved she hasn’t let recent stardom change her.
Film favourites such as Country Girl, Outlaw State of Mind and Born to Run were highlights of the show. Her live band also featured in the film with Scottish country legend Phil Cunningham making a well-received guest appearance for a couple of songs.
The finale song Glasgow (No Place Like Home) brought a tangible connection to the local crowd. The East End was in fine voice as the crowd sang along.
Jessie has previously said: “Honest to God, I love Glasgow so much now. It stole my heart. The people are so open and there is a real humanity behind Glaswegians.” The feeling seems mutual.
Special mention should also to given to up and coming Glaswegian country singer Carly Connor who was the only support act. Although she seemed a little nervous, when she started to sing she transformed into a little blonde powerhouse, belting out tracks from her recently released album Goldie Hawn accompanied only by an acoustic guitar. One to watch.
Jessie Buckley has come a long way since her audition for Andrew Lloyd Webber on BBC show “I’ll Do Anything.” She is currently working alongside Renee Zellweger on a new film biopic on Judy Garland, due to be released later this year.
