Ad Lib’s Monster Burger Challenge has been faced by people from all over the world. Many have failed, some have triumphed and earned a tshirt to prove it. Today’s competitor: Scott Milne, a UK’s Strongest Man finalist in 2018 and a former Scottish heavyweight & British super-heavyweight amateur Muay Thai champion.
Scott is an 28-year-old elite athlete who was meeting with SAS Nutrition, a supplier of bodybuilding and fitness supplements, based in the East End. He arrived in Glasgow this afternoon and was taken for lunch at Ad Lib on Hope Street.

The Monster burger is about the equivalent of seven full size regular burgers from their menu.
It contains 3lb of Aberdeen Angus beef, three full beef tomatoes, two onions, around 1lb of cheese, all in a gigantic bun.
There’s a two hour time limit to eat it.
Scott discussed strategies for approaching the challenge. He decided that he’d split the burger into quarters and eat one quarter at a time. It remains a lot of food. Well over 4000 calories.
Half way through he joked: “what’s for dessert?”
Staff at the restaurant say it’s rare that someone completes the challenge, although athletes tend to stand a better chance.

Scott is competing at the UK’s Strongest Man competition next week, so was ready for this challenge.
He finished his monster burger after almost exactly 45 minutes. Well ahead of the two hour time limit.
He then ordered a Nutella milkshake and finished that too.
SAS Nutrition has been around for seven years and is based on Dykehead Street. You can find out more about Scott Milne here.
