Nadine Walker is the Editorial Director at Tenement TV and splits her time between her two favourite cities, London (where she has a house) and Glasgow (where she calls home). Tenement TV are at the forefront of new music in Scotland and Nadine’s involved in capturing the best in music and bringing it to the Tenement TV audience.
They regularly showcase Glasgow talent and organise events around town.
We asked her to take us on a tour of her favourite places around the city.
What do you like best about Glasgow?
Glasgow isn’t where I was born or even where I spend 100% of my time now, but it’s where I found my beat and passion in life.
I love the friends and loves I met in Glasgow and it’s got a certain buzz about it that draws you in.
The music scene in Glasgow is alive and that’s exactly how I feel when I am back in this city.
Best outdoors space?
Mono in the sunshine is magic. It’s basically paying to drink cheap wine on the pavement. And you can’t beat an ice cream and a cider in Kelvingrove Park.
Best restaurant right now?
I am a vegetarian wanker now so I like Asian food best as there’s more variety than mac and cheese or a veggie burger.
I love Bar Soba for it’s perfect merge of a party atmosphere, quirky dressing and fresh Asian cuisine. Great dumplings too!
Best pub?
Broadcast is probably my favourite pub. I love the tunes, the discoball and their live space downstairs.
I always bump into pals there too.
Great addition to Sauchiehall Street.
Where do you like to pick up ingredients for cooking?
I mostly cook in London and use the market stall in Dalston that’s based on Eastenders.
I love the chat from the geezers on the stalls and the fruit and veg are so fresh and cheap! If there were an equivalent in Glasgow it would be The Barras but the old school ways of Glasgow means they are more into knocked-off fags than ripe avocados.
Where would you meet us for a coffee?
I love Piece in Finnieston but I would rather meet somewhere like Sleazy’s because of the good tunes and rough interiors.
Where do you shop for clothes?
I literally hate shopping for clothes.
I shop online and spend the time in the pub instead. If I could, I would just give all my cash to I’ll Be Your Mirror – the Glasgow-based styling team – and let them do the shopping for me. They have style down to a T!
