Shawlands will welcome a permanent comedy club, and an old name back to the area as The Marlborough Comedy Club is created in tribute to the historic venue that’s now The Shed Nightclub, at 26 Langside Avenue. As part of The Shed’s 20th anniversary year in 2018 the Southside nightclub have chosen to name their new monthly comedy club after the much loved Marlborough Club which was the previous name of the venue.
The Marlborough Club was the home of cabaret, ballroom dancing, comedy and on occasion a wedding. One couple who married at The Marlborough and got in contact with The Shed told them that although they cant remember much of the evening, they do remember that the whole party cost them only £71 55 years ago.
The Marlborough Comedy Club will be curated and compared by award winning comedian Jamie Dalgleish, a Glasgow native who has been a permanent fixture on the local comedy scene since 2010 when his girlfriend put him forward for his first gig.
He went on to win Scottish Comedian Of The Year in 2011. Jamie will be bringing acts from across the UK to Shawlands each month for a line-up on-par with any you would find in more established comedy venues.
The first event will be 30th March 30th as part of The Glasgow Comedy Festival and then run on the last Friday of every month.
