The team behind Vodka Wodka have opened Dixie Chick: an exciting new chicken joint in the heart of Ashton Lane. In a fun, informal space above the cocktail bar, the kitchen will be dishing out a steady stream of poultry-based concoctions. Think glazed wings, chicken strips and fried chicken burgers stacked with toppings and sauces. On the side, it’s all about loaded fries; chilli and chorizo fries or sweet potato chips dripping in blue cheese, beetroot slaw, crispy bacon and red pepper ketchup. Messy eating but all dishes come with the promise of extra napkins.
Alan Tomkins, one of Vodka Wodka’s owners, says: “We felt that Ashton Lane was ready for a cool, no-frills venue which doesn’t mess around and just offers amazing flavours in a buzzing, intimate environment. We’ve gone to town with some of the toppings, marinades and sauces to make sure this is hands-down, the best chicken joint in town. This is comfort food with a kick.”
The Dixie Chick team collaborated with local creatives Saved By Robots (Sugar Boat, Hillhead Bookclub) to create the brand and with Arka (Bread Meats Bread, ‘Babs) on the interior, which combines wood finishes with metal cages and white neon for a moody, atmospheric space.
Alan adds, “We’re delighted with the result. The atmosphere is totally transformed and people will feel the buzz of the bird as soon as they walk through our doors.”
As well as in the new venue, Dixie Chick will offer the whole menu as take-away and Vodka Wodka will serve Dixie’s menu in the bar too. With the venue running on a first-come, first-served basis, customers can also hang out downstairs in Vodka Wodka to kill a bit of time over cocktails while they wait for a table.
Dixie Chick will opened today, September 15th at Noon.
