Room 2 and resident DJ, Nightwave, have announced they’ll be teaming up with a line-up of Glaswegian talent for an Amazon Fundraiser edition of Nightrave on Friday 8th November.
Maya Medvesek, aka Nightwave, said: “Earlier this year I had the joy of connecting with anthropologist Verónica Castro and Kawá, a younger generation member of the Huni Kuin tribe, an ethnic group in the indigenous territories along the river Jordão in the state of Acre, Brazil. They are custodians of the forest, its inhabitants and its medicines, master healers, artists and musicians.”
Maya continues: “Kawá made the extraordinarily brave decision to leave the rainforest in order to learn English in the UK so that he can represent his tribe globally. During his stay he also visited Glasgow, we recorded an album together and held beautiful traditional ceremonies. This fundraiser is a way of thank you from us all and a political act of solidarity during these times of extreme crisis for the forest and its peoples.”
On top of being a prolific producer and a passionate advocate for gender equality in the music industry, Nightwave is also a formidable force in the DJ booth, known for fusing techno, acid, house and everything in between, in one heady set.
Joining her is Anna Gram and Bonzai Bonner, aka Lezzer Quest. The duo have already made a name for themselves at the helm of the popular Shoot Your Shot and Doppelbanger club nights where they encourage an atmosphere of inclusivity and unadulterated good times as a testament to authentic underground club culture.
Specialising in the atmospheric and the sublime, Sub Club resident and founder of Eyeangle Records Liam Doc will be spinning an eclectic mix of hip-hop, house and techno cuts all night.
Bringing the energy with a mix of techno and electro grooves is Glasgow’s own Lisaloof. The Moonlight resident is one of the most exciting names to emerge from the city’s thriving club scene.
With more special guests to be confirmed and some hypnotic visuals curated especially for the night by Georgina Pentskart, this is a party not to be missed.
Tickets cost £10 and 100% of the takings will be donated directly to the Huni Kuin tribe. 50% of booking fees will be donated by Resident Advisor.
