Glasgow’s One Devonshire Gardens is shining a spotlight on Scotland’s native drink at a special event next month that will celebrate all things whisky.
Designed for both whisky aficionados or novices who don’t have the faintest idea between a grain, malt or blend, the event will explore whisky from Scotland’s different regions, identifying the different characteristics of each.
Held in the hotel’s whisky snug, which is home to over 300 bottles of the spirit, the event will also look at pairing food with a dram.
Commenting, Fiona Sutherland, Bistro Manger at One Devonshire Gardens, said: “Pairing drink with food is often something more commonly associated with wine, but whisky can make a beautiful accompaniment to different dishes. The key to getting it right is understanding the type of whisky you have, something which we will be exploring at the event, pairing different blends and malts with cheese and sweet treats.”
“Whisky is very much evolving and what was once commonly seen as an older person’s drink is now being enjoyed by a younger audience. The way it is consumed has also changed with it often forming the base for many delicious cocktails. There will however always be the age-old argument about whether to add water, ice or enjoy neat – something we’d encourage people to experiment with and find out their personal tastes.”
Fiona, continued: “We’re looking forward to showcasing some beautiful whiskies alongside some delicious Scottish produce. The event is for everyone, whether you’re just starting out on your whisky journey or are simply looking to expand your knowledge, it will be a fun way to learn about the different malts and blends while enjoying a dram or two.”
