Over 60,000 Christmas dinners for homeless donated to Social Bite

18th December 2017 by Paul Trainer

Less than a week after itison launched its fourth annual festive fundraiser for Social Bite, an astonishing 62,115 meals – and counting – have been donated by kind hearted Scots to help feed the homeless over Christmas and beyond. Organisers are urging the public to keep donating and spreading the word as they aim to smash last year’s total of 75,755 vouchers donated.

Liam Gallagher has even lent his support to the campaign by making a donation and recording a video after his performance at Sleep in the Park encouraging everyone to get behind the fundraising effort.

To donate, simply visit here and for just £5 (100% of which goes to Social Bite), you can buy a meal for a homeless person or for the first time, buy a Christmas gift for children, families and individuals affected by homelessness to make sure they have a present to open on Christmas Day.

Earlier this week, Josh Littlejohn, co-founder of Social Bite, in a Facebook Live video, explained that he approached itison CEO Oli Norman back in 2014 hoping that a campaign on itison would help to fund 800 meals at Social Bite on Christmas Day. It captured the hearts of people all over Scotland who donated a phenomenal 32,600 vouchers allowing Social Bite to not only provide meals on Christmas Day, but throughout the entire year.

Josh said, “Each and every donation made on itison goes towards making sure that not a single homeless person will be turned away empty handed from Social Bite – it’s crucial to the work that we do and we are so grateful to everyone who has donated and shared with their friends – we really couldn’t do this without you.”

Oli Norman said: “We’re simply blown away by the generosity of our members and want to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s donated so far.

“Please keep spreading the word and help us to make sure as many people affected by homelessness as possible have access to a hot meal at Social Bite throughout 2018 and that children and families trapped in this cycle have a gift to open on Christmas Day.”

Social Bite’s Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen cafes will be opening their doors to the homeless on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to serve Christmas dinners with all the trimmings, offering food and company at what is one of the loneliest times of the year for many.
