Pacific Canteen in Partick to open as Honu this month

16th October 2017 by Paul Trainer

The Pacific Tiki Bar on Dumbarton Road has been taken over by a new team and they are working to transform one of the neighbourhood’s more quirky places. Currently known as The Pacific Canteen, the process will be complete with the opening of Honu on 27th October. It’s a gentle change.

“We are a small team of four and we are currently open five days a week” Sy Harty told Glasgowist. “We serve pan-Pacific dishes, classic cocktails with a twist here and there, and have a small selection of great wines. I am updating and re-branding slowly as we are an independent company. We’re getting there, our interior is brighter and fresher and there’s been an external facelift. My team have worked all the hours they can over the last four weeks to help us bring back to life a great site”.

Popular sunshine-infused dishes on the menu include Costa Rican Sweetcorn pancakes with fruit and a yoghurt, honey, sumac and pine nut dip or the king prawn tempura burger with mango salsa. The kitchen offering will be expanding before the name is changed to Honu and daily specials will be added.

Then there are the cocktails. Our favourites are the Hello Honu, a nod to the new makeover, with gin, lemon and creme de cassis and the spiced rum daiquiri.

Already making an impression in Partick, look out for the new Honu sign later this month. For an idea of what’s to come, have a look at the current menu below.
