Angus Macleod and Usman Shaikh have ran Tibo in Dennistoun for about ten years. It feels like they’ve always been there. The quirky East End hangout led the way for good food on Duke Street, along with Coia’s, long before that became an emerging trend.
Head chef, David Macleod, is responsible for the menu. It operates on multiple levels. There are typical bar snack standards, burgers, pizza or sandwiches (order the pastrami). Or you can start your day with a bit of brunch and a pot of tea.
The more eye-catching dishes come in the form of small plates: seasonal produce prepared with flare.
Last night we had an impressive portion of beautifully cooked scallops, gnocchi, black pudding, slivers of bacon and smoked cheese sauce for £6.95. A classic combination of great Scottish ingredients.
We also picked our way through spicy wings with mint yoghurt (£5.95), and a big portion of sweet potato wedges coated with a fresh chimichurri sauce (£4.95).
Tibo is the kind of friendly cafe and bistro that every Glasgow neighbourhood should have. Go visit.
