Restaurants feed the community as Let’s Eat Glasgow! line-up announced

23rd July 2016 by Paul Trainer

A group of chefs from the not for profit co-operative, Real Food, Real Folk, who were behind last year’s sell out food festival, Let’s Eat Glasgow! served up a community dinner in Bridgeton yesterday as they announced that double the number of restaurants will take part in this year’s Festival, which aims to address food inequality across the city.

They were serving at Teatime, a monthly ‘pay-what-you-feel’ community dinner for all those living, working and studying in Bridgeton and surrounding areas. The dinner was initiated by social enterprise The East Ate in association with Glasgow NE Food-bank to provide access to fresh food in a communal setting.

Real Food, Real Folk chefs from Mother India and the Ox & Finch chefs created and prepared meals using local produce, including edible flowers, vegetables and herbs from The East Ate’s own growing space.

The UK’s first major food and drink festival with a deeper social purpose at heart, Let’s eat Glasgow! showcases the best food, drink and produce that Glasgow and the West of Scotland has to offer, while at the same time addressing the food inequality that still exists across the city.

Let’s Eat Glasgow! Will be at SWG3 in Finnieston on 3rd and 4th September.

Joining the original Real Food, Real Folk members: Cail Bruich, Crabshakk, Guy’s Restaurant, Mother India, Ox and Finch, Stravaigin, The Gannet and Ubiquitous Chip at this year’s Let’s Eat Glasgow! will be a line-up of guest restaurants including: Banana Leaf, Café Gandolfi, El Perro Negro, Eusebis, Hanoi Bike Shop, Lychee Oriental, Martha’s and Wee Guys.

Visitors will enjoy restaurant food at festival prices with plates priced at £5 once again. There will also be a number of plates priced at £7.50 and £10.

Vouchers are available for either Saturday or Sunday and valid for that day only. Those planning to visit the restaurants on both days should ensure they purchase vouchers for both days.

Menus and prices will be announced shortly.

To purchase food vouchers please visit the Let’s Eat Glasgow! website.
