With 100 million records sold worldwide, US boyband phenomenon Backstreet Boys returned following a long running stint in Las Vegas to perform at The Hydro as part of their worldwide DNA tour to a sold out audience.
It might have been 18 years since their last arena tour, but the deafening roars and screams from an excited, nostalgic crowd as the boys stormed on stage proved their popularity has endured.
They continued to belt out an extensive back catalogue of their most famous crowd pleasers across the nearly two hour long impressive show
The atmosphere was electric as the crowd rocked along to classics such as The Call, Get Down and Incomplete.
The boys thanked the audience for their support over the last three decades of hits.
The strong vocals and harmonies from each member of the band alongside slick choreography proved the boys were more than just a jukebox of hit records.
There was plenty of coordinated outfit changes including a nod to their iconic white suits for the finale. Each singer had the chance to showcase their vocals with a short solo section and seemed to enjoy the chance to chat to the fans, with AJ debuting his Scottish accent (making reference to his Scottish McLean links) which was rather authentic.
The set design featured computerised screens, a walkway and raised stage to ensure the whole audience got a chance to see the boys up close.
The set featured photo montages of the band over the years, added to the nostalgia quota with 90s ‘curtain’ hairstyles and questionable fashion choices.
The audience swooned along to ballads such as Quit Playing Games with my Heart and I Want it That Way. There was time for new songs from the DNA album including Breathe and No Place, proving the boys still have the magic formula to produce hit records.
However the show suddenly kicked it up a notch when they exploded on to the stage to Everybody which really sent the Hydro wild and had everyone on their feet all the way through to the finale with Larger Than Life.
Backstreet is definitely back.
