It has been nearly 50 years since the wholesome band of brothers from Utah, The Osmonds, dominated the charts and indeed the hearts of millions of teenage girls all over the world. Now their remarkable story of fame and fortune has been turned into a smash hit musical currently touring the UK, playing in the Kings Theatre in Glasgow this week.
Written by Jay Osmond himself, the emotive autobiographical story begins with the young boys star residency on the Andy Williams Show right through to becoming a world wide phenomenon dominating the charts. Announcing the production Jay commented “There were some difficult times in my life and big hurdles to overcome.. and this musical will tell people things that will surprise them. But despite that trouble when you look back and think of the fans.. the music… it’s joyful”
Nicknamed “the one-take Osmonds” their wholesome family friendly appeal along with their dedication and hard work led them to stadium concerts and television appearances all over the world. With their overbearing and incredibly strict father steering their careers , they achieved over 70 million smash hit record sales and were at the peak of their success when a business decision threatens to take down everything they have worked for and ruin them forever…
Popular songs such as “Crazy Horses” “let me in” “one bad apple” and “love me for a reason” are featured throughout the story. The female members of the audience particular enjoyed Donnys rendition of “puppy love” as many wooped, cheered and swayed along to the well known classic. By the time the finale hit, the audience were on their feet raising the roof to Crazy Horses as if they were back in the heyday of stadium tours.
