Walk Right Back, the story of the Everley Brothers, visited the Theatre Royal after a successful UK tour. The concert based musical stars real-life brothers Aaron and Luke Wilson as the iconic duo with “harmonies from heaven” chronicalling their journey from humble, family orientated country boys to singing sensations who hold the record for the most Top 100 singles of any duo.
Classic hits such as Wake Up Little Susie, All I have to do is dream and Cathy’s Clown feature in this up-beat homage to the rock and roll sounds of the 1960s – as well as some well recieved cameo performances from Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly to add to the authenticity.
The performers on stage give note perfect performances in very authentic sounding tributes to the famous stars. However there is a dark side to the Everley story as the pressure of fame and fortune led to a decade long feud between the brothers.
They eventually reunited for a comeback gig in the 1980s in the Royal Albert Hall and the audience were transported back to that evening as the rest of the show became a live concert, rolling through their hit records as well as other iconic tracks from the 1960s.
The nostalgia for an era of rock n roll ensured an electric atmosphere. It may have been a Sunday evening, but it was clear the audience were there for a good time.
The inclusion of the live band on stage gave the performers an opportunity to show off their musicality with guitarists, double bass, piano and drums.
This powerful tribute to some of the most revered performers of the rock n roll decade had the audience singing along and some even jive dancing in the aisles all the way through to the standing ovation and roaring cheers from the crowd as the curtain fell.
