Returning to Glasgow after a brief hiatus, debuting at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Section 33 are planning on transforming one of the city’s buildings into a hip, New York style pop up restaurant and bar for five days next month.
The City Centre location is still being kept under wraps but organisers tell us they plan on offering high-end food served in a cool, urban setting at affordable prices.
Section 33 told Glasgowist: “We aim to pay homage to the heritage of the venue and this time we have decided to showcase a huge variety of up and coming unsigned local musicians, this ties into the history of the venue perfectly.”
There will also be something of a Halloween theme: “We’ve got some real treats lined up, such as showing the original 1922 silent horror film – Nosferatu – with an accompanying orchestra.”
The style of food for the next pop-up is very street food orientated, incorporating South American, Asian, and Scottish influences. The A la Carte menu will consist of 15 dishes to choose from and is designed in a tapas, sharing fashion where they recommend 2-3 dishes per person.
The restaurant will open from Wednesday 2nd – Sunday 6th November. Tickets for entry to the event are priced at £5 per person which includes a welcome cocktail for Rapscallion.
The idea is the brainchild of restaurateur Kyle Steel who wants to bring high-end quality food to a generation unimpressed by starched table linens and silver cutlery, while at the same time donating a share of profits to people in need and homeless around Glasgow.
Kyle said: “Section 33 used to be an occasional licence for selling alcohol at short term and outdoor events but it is also an eviction notice you get from the Council if you’re going to lose your home.”
“A big part of this pop-up is to give back to the community and support Glasgow’s homeless population and families in need. My Gran used to always ask when I was going to get a real job, or a trade, I feel by giving back to the local community and those who are going through a challenging time makes everything we do much more worth while.”
After the event we’re looking into various options to ensure we’re feeding as many people in need as possible, we’re also running a rucksack collection for The Simon Community, and finally donating to the restoration fund of the incredible venue we’re taking over for a week”
“We want to continue to offer a dining experience unlike anything the city has seen before. I’m passionate about presenting great food, contemporary cocktails and live up and coming live musicians, within breathtaking venues.”
