Glasgow Building Preservation Trust is to sell the famous St Andrew’s in the Square, which is considered one of the finest classical churches in Scotland.
Alan Creevy, the Director in charge of the sale at Chartered Surveyors CDLH, commented, “We are delighted to have been instructed to market such a prestigious building at the heart of Glasgow City Centre, on the edge of the prosperous Merchant City and close to Glasgow Cross and Glasgow Green. The building provides circa 13,600 sq. ft. over basement, ground and mezzanine levels and really is one of Glasgow’s gems”.
“The building is occupied at present by Café Source until January 2020, when they will vacate the building.”
“The ground and mezzanine floors have successfully developed into a popular cultural venue for Scottish music, song and dance, as well as a popular venue for weddings and functions”.
A spokesperson for Glasgow Building Preservation Trust commented, “There is no doubt that St Andrews in the Square is one of Scotland’s finest historic buildings, completed in 1756 by master mason Mungo Naismith to the designs of Allan Dreghorn. The award-winning redevelopment of the building in 2000 has been a great example of what a Building Preservation Trust can achieve. In recognition that we have no operational requirement for the building, the Trust now wishes to dispose of the building to enable us to focus on future opportunities.”
The building has been placed on the open market at offers over £495,000.
