The Head of Licensing at Glasgow City Council has written to representatives of bars informing them that the sale of alcohol to enjoy off the premises will stop on 6th July. Takeaway pints have been a feature of local pubs with customers queuing up to order a pint to take home with them. This will stop when restrictions are lifted on the opening of external areas.
The new instructions says bottles of wine or cans of beer can still be sold or included in home delivery. It seems pints are the target after a series of complaints that people are drinking in the streets in violation of local bylaws.

The letter suggests licensing authorities are asking pubs to comply voluntarily but sanctions may be taken should takeaway pints continue to be a feature of the new roadside economy that has sprung up in response to measures that close the interior of venues to customers.
The letter said the council had been inundated with complaints that bars were selling pints in plastic glasses without lids that were then being drunk in the street or taken to parks.
