Anna Medjanskaja moved to Scotland from Estonia to be with her partner Artem. They had known each other when they were teenagers and reconnected as adults. Artem has lived in Glasgow for almost twenty years.
Anna was working in logistics and Artem for a brand company. She started making cakes for friends and family with a keen eye for design while he developed an interest in coffee. After catching the attention of local folk on Instagram their own interests began to grow into a business.

Earlier this year Anna realised her dream of opening a French style patesserie cafe on Park Road, between Kelvingrove Park and Great Western Road. They specialise in delicate, beautiful cakes, served with coffee, tea and some chat.
The story behind the name? “A few years ago we decided to go to a round trip to Ukraine, we heard how different and beautiful this country is. Final point of our destination was a city that we fell in love with – Lviv! Very medieval streets with beautiful cafes. All cafes in Lviv have a theme and story behind.”
“This small city inspired us to create a place with not only special cakes and coffee but also with a meaning. The idea always was to create a place where you can forget about the time and enjoy your cake, that’s how the name came up.”
You will find up to 15 different cakes to choose from over the weekend. Their chocolate almond cake has a dark chocolate base, milk chocolate ganache, white chocolate mousse, crispy layer, almond paste and caramel. They experiment with different flavours of choux pastry combined with cream and fresh fruit. There’s an apple pie flavoured tea imported from Germany.
With a cavalcade of cakes and a friendly welcome, Broken Clock Cafe has quickly become an important part of the local food scene and one of the reasons Kelvinbridge was named in Time Out’s list of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods.
Broken Clock Cafe is at 10 Park Road, G4 9JG
