David Beckham spent some time exploring Glasgow’s restaurant and bar scene this week. First he was spotted having lunch in Crabshakk on Argyle Street – mussels, scallops, lobster, fish and chips, calamari and wandering around Finnieston. Next, he popped up at Blythswood Square Hotel. Somewhere in between he went for a drink down the Gallowgate.

Retired footballer turned whisky salesman, Beckham was in town for promotional activity around Haig Club. He spoke with owner of The Gate, Andy Gemmell, with the pair discussing the origins of the new cocktail bar in the East End and Scottish drinks.
We are told he declined the offer of a cheese toastie but was suitably impressed with what he found on his trip to Glasgow.
