Talk of the Town: Deer spotted on Buchanan Street

15th May 2020 by Jack Dempsey

We have become accustomed to the quiet streets of Glasgow. With shops, bars and restaurants closed, the absence of crowds has tempted local wildlife to stray further into the city centre.

This morning, a deer was spotted gamboling along an empty Buchanan Street.

Lockdown was anounced on 23rd March when First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called for an end to public gatherings of more than two people and introduced measures to close places of work that were not deemed essential.

Since then, the government advice has been to stay at home. Google location indicates that visits to retail and recreation areas of Glasgow dropped 84% in the week after lockdown.

With the reduction of vehicles in Glasgow city centre, air pollution has fallen to its lowest recorded levels.
