Jollibee welcomed customers to its new Glasgow store today. The brand is famous for Chickenjoy, it’s crispy fried chicken, made with a special family recipe.
The store has opened on at 59 Sauchiehall Street, one of Glasgow’s busiest thoroughfares. Sauchiehall Street is a priority area to the city’s post-pandemic redevelopment plan and Jollibee aims to contribute to the diversification of the high street offering. Jollibee Glasgow will bring at least 50 new jobs to local people, supporting the bounce-back of the city’s economy.
Jollibee serves up fried chicken which is hand-breaded with a thin coating for crispiness. Spicy Chickenjoy is the fiery version. “Jolly Spaghetti”, prepared with its signature sweet-style sauce, loaded with chunky slices of beef sausage, and topped with cheese. The Jollibee Chicken Sandwich, one of the most popular in the menu, is served with a hefty chicken fillet, marinated in a special recipe, breaded to crunch-perfection, and then topped with a dressing. Jollibee Glasgow will serve halal meat to cater to all communities in the city.
Adam Parkinson, Business Head of Jollibee Europe, said: “We have seen great success in the UK so far, especially among young people who are always on the lookout for new experiences and diverse food choices. That’s why our focus is on the entire experience, from the moment you walk in the door and see the colourful, fun design of our store, to the first bite of chicken which will have you coming back for more.”
Adam Parkinson continues: “Our overall UK sales are rising considerably, especially the Chicken Sandwich and new Spicy Chickenjoy. Glasgow represents the eleventh restaurant we have opened and the tenth city we are located in, proving that our UK expansion plan is working. I hope there will be as much fanfare and excitement as the opening in Edinburgh, where we saw huge queues in the snow on opening day.”
Jollibee was originally founded in 1978 and has over 1,500 stores across 17 countries, including the USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, UAE, and the UK in England and Wales. The first Jollibee in the UK opened in London in 2018 and has since added another eight locations to the map including Edinburgh, Cardiff, Newcastle, Liverpool and Leicester Square in London’s West End.
Jollibee is a restaurant chain founded in 1978 by Tony Tan Caktiong and his family. It is the market leader in its home country’s restaurant industry, with over 1500 locations across 17 countries. The brand has many accolades to its name, including the “best international restaurant chain” by US-based food and lifestyle website, Thrillist. Famously, the late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain referred to Jollibee as the “wackiest, jolliest place on Earth” in his hit CNN food and travel documentary show, Parts Unknown.
