The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was adapted from the novel of the same name in 2012 by the National Theatre and has gone on to win numerous awards, including the Olivier and Tony award for Best Play. The play follows 15 year old Christopher Boone, a neurodivergent teenager who “finds people difficult”. When he discovers his neighbour’s dog has been killed one night, he makes it his mission to find out who is responsible, discovering more about his life along the way.
Producer Simon Stephens says “It is Christopher’s capacity to find the magical within a world that seems mundane that has captivated all those people who have come along to see our work”.
Connor Curren playing Christopher is a stand-out among a brilliant cast, bringing both comedy and heart to a demanding role. He is supported physically by the ensemble, who incorporate intricate, intriguing choreography to bring the story to life, such as the ballet-like sequence where Christopher explains why he would be a good astronaut.
The staging and lighting is another highlight, particularly during scenes set within the London Underground. The pulsating lights and deafening sounds leave you fully immersed in Christopher’s distinctive view of the world.
An intriguing, engaging, must-see production.
