The Jesus and Mary Chain will release an album of new material in 2017. Creation Records confirmed the record will arrive in March next year. Brothers Jim and William Reid entered the studio to record new songs after reuniting for live performances of the raw feedback white noise, wispy vocals and power pop chords of their seminal debut album Psychocandy.
Creation founder Alan McGee, who is also the band’s longtime manager, mentioned the new record in an interview with the CBC this week saying: “They’ve made another album. It’s a big deal. It’s unbelievable. They’ve just made an album and I’ve signed them to Warners.” McGee said in an interview published yesterday.
“New album coming. It’s coming out end of next March. It’s kinda enormous!”
The group released their sixth and last studio album, Munki, in 1998 and dissolved the band the following the year with the brothers going their separate ways.
They reunited for a Coachella performance in 2007 and have played live consistently since then, but have yet to release any new material.
Last year, Jim Reid said in an interview that the band had entered the studio to work on a new album.
A recording of their gig at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom in November 2014 was released as a live album last year.
