Bobby Gillespie takes to the stage at the Kelvingrove Bandstand tonight with his Primal Scream bandmates as part of the Magners Summer Nights festival. The enigmatic singer is fully recovered after suffering a back injury at a European date in June and ready to strut through a cavalcade of the band’s biggest rock tracks.
Renowned for a high energy performance, Primal Scream will bring a dynamic show to the West End bandstand that was refurbished before the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and has now become one of the city’s most interesting live venues.
After building a career courting controversy and aiming for the dark periphery of pop culture, Primal Scream now find themselves in a curious position. They have somehow crossed into elder statesmen territory, becoming a regular high ranking feature on festival line-ups and being accepted into the mainstream.
We’re confident Bobby Gillespie still has a lingering subversive streak, which should be to the fore when the band take to the stage at 8.30pm tonight.
Their latest album Chaosmosis – the group’s eleventh studio album – was released in March.

20-years ago today it was Oasis at Knebworth. Tonight it is @ScreamOfficial at Kelvingrove Bandstand. Weather was slightly better in 1996.
