Updates from TRNSMT Festival suggest that there will be an extra two days of musical fun next year after the success of the first weekend event this summer. Soon after the final act performed at the Glasgow Green site, plans were announced for a 2018 TRNSMT event on the 6th, 7th and 8th July. Now the website has been updated to include Friday 29th June, Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July, with the festival no longer taking place on Saturday 7th July.
Executive officer for the Grand Orange Lodge in Scotland Robert MacLean had previously insisted The Orange Lodge’s 2018 parade to Glasgow Green would “definitely go ahead” on Saturday 7th July despite clashing with next year’s TRNSMT festival.
A spokesperson for TRNSMT told Glasgowist, “We can confirm that all dates on each weekend of TRNSMT were available to us, and at no time were we told we couldn’t operate on 7th July.
“However, we have chosen the dates for TRNSMT around artist availability”.
Tickets already went on sale for 6-8th July at Glasgow Green without any bands being announced for the line-up. Over 120,000 fans enjoyed headline performances from Radiohead, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro alongside a host of names that helped shape TRNSMT into an exciting addition to the UK’s music calendar.
It now looks like there will be more musical entertainment and visitors to Glasgow Green in 2018 as TRNSMT adds extra days.
A total of 110 artists played TRNSMT, with performances taking place on the Main Stage, King Tut’s Stage Powered by Utilita Energy, Jack Rocks tent, Smirnoff House area and the Utilita Tree.
Announcing initial plans for a one-weekend return for TRNSMT in 2018, Festival Director Geoff Ellis said: “We couldn’t be more delighted with how TRNSMT was received this year, we’ve been overwhelmed by the feedback from fans who are eager to return next year.
“To show our commitment to TRNSMT being firmly at the heart of the Scottish music calendar, we’re delighted to announce that tickets are on sale this week, so that music fans can put TRNSMT firmly in their summer music plans for 2018. We look forward to delivering another incredible weekend of outstanding music to music-lovers next year.”
Cllr Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council said: “Glasgow and great live music go hand-in-hand. From tiny basement gigs to huge open-air events; our city and its audiences have a unique reputation with bands and fans alike.
“Music, art and culture are also vital to the city’s tourism and leisure industries, which support tens of thousands of jobs across every neighbourhood.
“With TRNSMT confirmed to return to Glasgow Green in 2018; I want to see the local community continue to be involved and to benefit from its continued success.”
The early bird ticket offer initially offered a three day ticket at 2017 prices. Promoters DF Concerts have indicated they will be in touch with early bird ticket applicants to explain the new arrangements.
An update on plans across the five days is now expected, alongside news on who will be the headline acts.
