TRNSMT Tips: What you Need to Know For The Festival

4th July 2019 by Paul Trainer

TRNSMT organisers, DF Concerts, along with their partner agencies have shared a series of tips for music fans ahead of Scotland’s biggest festival, which is kicking off from 12th – 14th July.

This year’s event brings with it several changes, from the introduction of a cup deposit scheme to limited single use plastics onsite.

TRNSMT is committing to Live Nation’s Green Nation charter this year, by reducing single use plastics and encouraging recycling, in a bid to completely remove them from the event by 2021. This year, all cups, food containers and cutlery etc. onsite will be made of paper, wood or biodegradable materials; and a number of recycling points will be located throughout the site. DF Concerts are encouraging all festival-goers to embrace the sustainability measures and put the correct items in the correct bins.

As part of this, the number of water points onsite have increased this year. TRNSMT goers can bring empty 500ml bottles with them to top up via the taps – though glass and hard plastic or metal drinks containers will not be allowed onsite. If you forget one, there’s plenty of places to purchase a bottle onsite – TRNSMT has teamed up with a local supplier to provide highly recyclable bottles that you can refill throughout the day and return to receive your deposit back.

This year also heralds the return of DF Concerts’ successful cup deposit scheme used at previous events – so make sure you keep your cup, empty bottles, and pick up any others you see lying around. Ten cups or bottles returned means you will receive £1 back and everyone can enjoy a much cleaner site at the same time!

Fans’ enjoyment and safety  is a top priority, and fans are encouraged to check out www.trnsmtfest.com/info for all the latest travel, timings and event safety information before making their way to Glasgow Green. Police Youth Engagement will be onsite this year, chatting to 12-18-year olds attending the festival, providing safety advice, and fans are reminded to speak to the nearest Police Officer or Steward if they need any help throughout the day.

PLAN YOUR JOURNEY

With some of the biggest names in music and hundreds of thousands of music fans flocking to Glasgow Green from 12th July, it’s essential that everyone attending brushes up on the best way to get there, as well as journey safely back home. With a heavy crowd expected, organisers recommend fans travel by public transport where possible to ease congestion and embrace a greener route by walking or cycling, utilising the Bike Racks that will be available at each entrance.

There are plenty of travel options available to and from the TRNSMT site, including coach, bus, rail and subway. All information can be found at www.TRNSMTfest.com/travel

Doors Open and Curfew times are as follows:

  • Friday 12th July: Doors Open 12pm, Curfew 11pm
  • Saturday 13th July: Doors Open 12pm, Curfew 11pm
  • Sunday 14th July: Doors Open 12pm, Curfew 11pm

Stage times are available on the TRNSMT app, which you can download on all smart phones.

WHICH ENTRANCE?

There are three entrances to the site – VIP, EAST and WEST.  The VIP Entrance is only for fans who have purchased a VIP ticket, and East and West are for the use of all General Admission customers.

YOUR WELFARE

  • Your enjoyment and safety are our priority.
  • Look after yourself and your mates – always be in trusted company.
  • Check the weather beforehand and be prepared – apply sun cream if it’s hot, and wear appropriate clothes for rain and sunshine. Remember, it gets cold at night (even on the hottest days) so bring a jacket or jumper to keep warm.
  • Eat – Eat regularly throughout the day from our fantastic vendors onsite to suit all dietary requirements
  • Hydrate – Drink about half a pint of water (or up to a pint if it’s hot weather) every hour and never leave drinks unattended. It’s equally as important not to over hydrate. There are free water points at the bars and throughout the site – bring an empty bottle with you to top up from the taps.
  • Rest – Make sure you get enough rest the night before and take breaks, especially if the weather is hot. Anyone who’s feeling overwhelmed can access the welfare site to take a moment to chill out, and relaxed seating is also available throughout the site.
  • Pace yourself – space out alcoholic drinks with juice or water and know your limits. Check out www.drinkaware.co.uk for more info. Keep an eye on your friends too and contact welfare if you need any help.
  • It is illegal to purchase alcohol and supply it to people under 18. If you are caught to be doing so, you will be ejected from the site and may face prosecution.
  • Illegal drugs and herbal/legal highs are not permitted at TRNSMT, don’t bring them onsite.  Anyone found with illegal drugs will be refused entry to the festival and will handed over to the police.
  • Festivals are not the best place to experiment – large crowds can be overwhelming.
  • Avoid mixing. Mixing drugs – including alcohol and medicines – puts you at risk of an overdose.
  • If you or a friend feel unwell at any point, please visit the welfare areas.
  • Drugs and alcohol can lower inhibitions, but it is your responsibility to make sure any prospective partners are able to give consent to ANY sexual contact.
  • Look after your hearing, take regular breaks from loud music and don’t stand too close to the speakers.  Earplugs are available from the welfare tent.
  • This year, TRNSMT is introducing two external welfare points – these are a safe space to wait if you have to leave the site for any reason, or if you’ve been refused entry, or encountered any issues on your way to the site. These are located at the EAST and WEST gates.

KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS SAFE

  • You’ll need your ticket at all times – wristbands won’t be distributed to those with a General Admission ticket, so please look after it and keep it safe and dry. Regular ticket checks take place throughout the festival and if you are found to be onsite without one, you may be ejected.
  • Bring only what you need – ATMs are available, and most outlets will accept card.

SECURITY & DELAYS

  • Expect queues and searches on entry.  This is for everyone’s safety, so please be patient.  Arrive in plenty of time before gates open to make sure you’re onsite for your favourite bands.
  • Don’t bring a bag unless it’s essential.  If you do bring a bag, you will be asked to join a separate line for searching and you will be delayed. Bags bigger than an A3 sheet of paper won’t be permitted.
  • There will be a significant security and police presence, including armed police.
  • Our stewards are there to help you.
  • VIP wristbands must be collected from the VIP Entrance only.
  • If you have a guardianship form or accessible ticket, please visit the Welfare tent when you enter the site to collect your wristband.

PROHIBITED ITEMS

The following items are strictly not allowed onsite: flares, fireworks or smoke emitting devices, drugs, bags bigger than A3 size, weapons, umbrellas, glass or hard plastic/metal bottles, drones, professional cameras or cameras with removable lens, folding or inflatable chairs, laser pens, selfie sticks.

If you are found to be in possession of any of these items, it will be removed from you and you may risk being refused entry.
